L3M3 Mock Exam Simulator · Contract Administration
This is a test platform, not a teaching guide — built to drill you until the real thing feels familiar. Practice each LO separately first, then sit the full 90-minute mock under real exam conditions.
L3M3 is where students who were comfortable with L3M1's definitions suddenly hit a wall — because LO2.3 asks you to actually calculate margin and mark-up, not just recognise a term. It's the single most common reason for a resit at this level. This platform gives that section extra weight deliberately. Don't skip the LO2 practice set even if you think you "get it" — the exam traps in margin vs mark-up catch confident students more often than unsure ones.
Assessment Method
L3M3 is assessed by a 90-minute Objective Response (multiple choice) exam. Scenario-based, one correct answer per question, no written component. This simulator mirrors that exactly — recognition and elimination, not construction of an answer.
What's Covered
LO1 — Contract Documentation
Contract types, the documents that make up a contract, stages of contract formation, and business case components.
LO2 — Pricing, Negotiation & Margin
Competitive pricing, negotiation approaches, and the calculation link between costs, price, margin and mark-up.
LO3 — Tendering
Tender process stages, ITT documentation, evaluation, and the regulations that govern tendering.
LO4 — Contract Performance
Performance data, KPIs, SMART targets, and contractual risk management.
How to use this platform: work through each LO practice set first — every question locks after your first attempt, so treat each one as you would in the exam. Once you've cleared all four, sit the Full Mock Exam in one sitting with the timer running. That's the closest simulation of exam day you'll get outside the real thing.
Contract Documentation & Formation
Contract types, the documents that make up a contract, the stages of forming one, and business case components.
Quick Reference — Contract Types
| Type | What It Is |
|---|---|
| Spot Purchase | A one-off buy, no ongoing commitment |
| Term Contract | Runs for a fixed period, covering repeat purchases |
| Framework Agreement | Pre-approved supplier list, call off as needed, no full re-tender each time |
| Call-Off | An individual order placed under an existing framework agreement |
Competitive Pricing, Negotiation & Margin
This is the heaviest-weighted practice set on this platform. LO2.3 explicitly tests the link between costs, price, margin and mark-up — get the formulas locked in before you touch the questions.
The single most common L3M3 mistake: treating a 25% mark-up and a 25% margin as the same thing. They are never the same number (except at 0%). Mark-up is calculated on cost. Margin is calculated on selling price. Get the denominator wrong and every answer that follows is wrong too.
The Two Formulas — Memorise the Denominator
Worked Example — Same Numbers, Two Different Percentages
Cost price is £80. Selling price is £100. The gap between them (£20) is fixed — but the percentage depends what you divide it by. Mark-up: £20 ÷ £80 (cost) = 25%. Margin: £20 ÷ £100 (selling price) = 20%. Same transaction, same £20, two different answers — because mark-up divides by the smaller number (cost) and margin divides by the larger number (selling price). That's why mark-up % is always higher than margin % for the same transaction (except at 0%, where both are zero).
Worked Example — Going the Other Direction
A supplier wants a 30% mark-up on a product costing £60. Selling Price = Cost × (1 + mark-up%) = £60 × 1.30 = £78. Now check the margin on that same £78 sale: (£78 − £60) ÷ £78 = 23.1% margin — noticeably lower than the 30% mark-up used to set the price. If a scenario gives you a mark-up and asks for the resulting margin (or vice versa), always calculate the selling price first, then re-divide by whichever base the question asks for.
Effective Tendering
Tender process stages, documentation, evaluation, and the regulations governing how tendering must be run.
Measuring Contract Performance
Performance data, KPIs, SMART targets, and how contractual risk is identified and managed.
Full Mock Exam — 90 Minutes, All Learning Outcomes
The closest thing to sitting the real L3M3 OR exam. Once you start the timer, it runs continuously — treat this as the real thing.
Sit this only after you've cleared all four LO practice sets. Find a quiet 90 minutes, no notes, no pausing. When the timer hits zero, any unanswered questions lock automatically — exactly like walking out of the real exam hall.
