What it's for

The cheapest quote isn't always the cheapest choice. Total cost of ownership (TCO) adds up everything an item costs you over its life — buying it, getting it delivered, putting quality right, switching supplier, managing the contract, running it and getting rid of it at the end. Enter the figures for up to three suppliers and see which one really costs least.

Compare your suppliers

1. What are you buying?

Yearly costs are multiplied by this number. Between 1 and 20.

2. Costs for each supplier

Enter totals in pounds for the whole purchase. Leave a box blank if it doesn't apply. You need at least two suppliers with a purchase price; the third is optional.

Purchase price — the price on the quote.
Delivery — delivery, installation and setting up.
Switching — one-off costs of changing supplier: onboarding, training, exit fees. Usually £0 for your current supplier.
Quality — yearly cost of inspection, returns, rework and downtime.
Management — yearly staff time managing the contract and supplier.
Running — yearly energy, maintenance, consumables and licences.
Disposal — removal and safe disposal at the end. Use a minus figure if you'd get money back.
