Everything I achieve is for every other Autistic person who feels they do not belong.
Being Autistic is hard.
Many people think its a label or an excuse. They do not know what its like to be like we are. How hard it is. How difficult to get employment, respect or support. Well, being autistic I know how hard it is. Those long moments of doubt, despair at the world, wondering why I do not fit in or why I keep clashing with people over things that I see as logical.
So my mission is and always will be to strive as hard as I can to be at the forefront of my profession, not because I am
focused and career driven, I am not. I would rather be sitting on a beach watching the waves (with a glass of Rum!).
I do so because every month that goes by and I am still carving my own path I am proving that Autistic people can be
masters of their own destiny and not defined by their autism.
Every award I am shortlisted for or win, is not for me. Its for you, the autistic person reading this.
I have experienced the bad side of Management and their attitudes to autistic communication needs, I have experienced a very prominent organisation having issue with me needing AI to improve how I write, to tidy it and make it professional. Then taking away that adjustment and asking me to do things "raw".
These negative experiences which nearly break me, do not define me and I will continue to kick down the door to equal
opportunities and work place adjustments for everyone with Autism.
If anyone autistic or if you are a parent to a child with autism, lets connect. Share experiences, talk about how we can make things better.
If you're an employer and you want me to come present about autism to your teams with my personal story then please reach out.
